10 Subjects that Should be Taught in Schools I Practical Skills I Real Education

Science, history, geography, economics, languages, math and many more are the lessons we learn. Why don't schools teach humanity, kindness, sincerity, honesty, equality and equity as subjects? Our world is dynamic. We crave for new things. Useful lessons. Enhancing syllabus! With all due respect to teachers and school managements, we should strive for including practical lessons in school. And I'm so glad at least some teachers are making meaningful changes.

Of course schools mould us on interaction, co-operation etc. The above-mentioned subjects are very important as well. However, general qualities should be practically exercised too, on a large scale. Students must be shown videos, pictures, diagrams, facts and figures of how the world runs on emotions and abstract elements. Show them 'what if' and 'why' of things. Lessons are not meant to be just records of the past. It should teach the future too. Show them movies, TV shows, documentaries, historic animations: discuss about them, have healthy arguments in class. Wow, what a dream?

Before criticizing children for not scoring 100% on a particular subject, contemplate the manner in which you imparted education to them. Does every human being have the same calibre to digest something into the brain the exact same way? No.

Teach these subjects (this is not an exhaustive list):

1. Changing a car tyre
2. Learning a 3rd or 4th language
3. Using a phone for survival
4. Emergency safety procedures
5. Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
6. Fitness, physique and wellness
7. Mental wellness, peace & management of stress
8. Stock trading, investment, savings
9. Public speaking
10. How to prompt well to AI tools

If you still believe that life lies on school subjects, take this test for yourself.

Go to a country you've never visited in your life.
Survive alone for 3 days. With a phone, few dollars.
Now think: how are you going to apply those so called 'subjects' alone.

Hope we all realize the importance of coexistence, flexibility, digital skills, leveraging tools and communication.
